American author Michael Swanwick's science fiction short tale "The Very Pulse of the Machine" was released in 1998. It was the Best Short Story winner of the 1999 Hugo Awards. Additionally, it was a finalist for the Reader Poll of Asimov's Science Fiction magazine and the 1999 Locus Award for Best Short Story. The narrative was transformed into a 2022 instalment of the Netflix anthology series Love, Death & Robots.
